The University of North Carolina gymnastics team is hosting their first home meet of the season Saturday, Feb. 5, against the Maryland Terrapins.
"The season has gone well so far, we feel that we are getting stronger as a team each week," said Head Coach Derek Galvin. "We are very excited about having our first home meet. The renovation of Carmichael was completed just this past summer. For the gymnastics community it will the their first time to enjoy the new arena."
Maryland averages a team score of 193.356 and is ranked one position higher than North Carolina in the EAGL conference.
"We believe that rankings are nice but they are no indication of how the outcome is going to be," said Galvin. "We feel really good about where the team is right now physically and mentally. We are looking forward to a great competition."
The meet will be one of four home competitions for the Tar Heels this season. It will begin at 7 p.m. in Carmichael Arena. Admission is free.
