CHAPEL HILL --- Haleigh Dickey uncorked two home runs to lead North Carolina over Charlotte 6-2 in game two of a doubleheader Wednesday at Anderson Stadium. Sara Buchholz earned the win in the circle improving UNC to 11-5 in 2011.
uchholz (2-2) allowed two runs on two hits in five innings of work. Spingola spelled her classmate tossing two scoreless frames to seal the win.
Kelli Wheeler registered three hits to lead UNC at the plate. Haleigh Dickey cranked a pair of home runs and three RBI, good for the sophomore's third career multi-home run game. Ally Blake added one hit and three RBI to round out the UNC attack.
Charlotte broke a scoreless tie in the third frame manufacturing two runs on two hits. Lorena Vela belted a two-run home run over the center field fence to give the 49ers their first lead of the day.
The Tar Heels evened the score in the bottom of the frame on two hits. Pinch-runner Chelsey Butler scored on a shallow RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Blake. Dickey then crushed a solo home run over the center field fence to knot the score at two aftet three frames.
UNC manufactured four runs on four hits to gain a 6-2 lead after five frames. Blake ripped a two-RBI double in the left center field gap to give Carolina their first lead of the game. Dickey followed the at-bat with a line drive home run, her second of the day, over the right center field fence.
Spingola hurled two more scoreless frames to close out the Tar Heels' third straight victory.
