Tar Heels Welcome Elon Wednesday

CHAPEL HILL --- The first contest of a four game home-stand, North Carolina will host Elon Wednesday at 7 p.m. from Anderson Stadium. The Tar Heels will then host Boston College Friday and Saturday for Senior Weekend. Carolina will honor North Carolina softball legend Ray Chandler before Wednesday's contest against Elon.

ELON SERIES NOTES
• North Carolina is 26-12-1 all-time against Elon dating to the 1977 season.
• Carolina is 18-1-1 over the last 20 meetings with the Phoenix.
• Elon claimed their first win of the series in 20 tries last season with a 1-0 victory in Elon, N.C. Current Phoenix ace Erin O'Shea tossed a complete-game shutout in the win.
• North Carolina will dedicate a seat at Anderson Stadium to North Carolina softball legend Ray Chandler prior to Wednesday's game.
NOTING THE TAR HEELS
• North Carolina will look to rebound Wednesday hosting Elon at 7 p.m. from Anderson Stadium. Wednesday's contest will serve as the first of a four-game home-stand as Boston College comes to town Friday.
• The Tar Heels feature a balanced attack with a .276 team batting average, 2.53 staff ERA and a .960 fielding percentage.
• Junior Kelli Wheeler anchors the attack with a .376 batting average and adds 10 home runs. Sophomore Haleigh Dickey leads Carolina with 11 home runs and 40 RBI, including two home runs in her last three games.
• Freshman Lori Spingola leads UNC in the circle with a 21-14 mark, 1.84 ERA and 223 strikeouts to just 43 walks.
NOTING THE PHOENIX
• Elon sports a .294 batting average, 3.28 staff ERA and .957 fielding percentage. The Phoenix have dropped four of their last five contests in 2011.
• Carleigh Nester leads Elon at the plate with a .364 batting average and has struck out just four times in 110 at-bats. Tomeka Watson adds 20 stolen bases on the year.
• In the circle, Erin O'Shea has thrown the bulk of the innings compiling a 3.37 ERA and a 7-9 record.
