Ranee Premji, a junior midfielder from Calgary, Alberta, had been named the Tar Heel Performer of the Week for August 15-21, 2011. Premji's goal with 13:27 remaining in the second half proved to be the game-winner as the Tar Heels edged Nebraska 2-1 in Carolina's season opener at Lincoln, Neb. on August 19.
Premji, now in her second year as the starting attacking center midfielder for Coach Anson Dorrance's team, scored on a rebound of a Courtney Jones shot with less than 14 minutes to play to break a 1-1 tie and give the Tar Heels a 2-1 win over the Cornhuskers.
It was just the second career goal for Premji. Her previous goal was also a game-winning tally as she scored with less than four minutes remaining to give the Tar Heels a 1-0 win over Florida State on October 14, 2010 at Fetzer Field.
