TAR HEELS CLOSE OUT HOMESTAND BY HOSTING MIAMI TUESDAY
North Carolina (14-2, 1-0 ACC) will close out its nine-game homestand and look to improve to 2-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play on Tuesday night when it hosts Miami (9-5, 0-1 ACC) at 9 p.m. in the Smith Center. The game will be televised regionally by the syndicated ACC Network of stations. Bob Rathbun (play-by-play) and Mike Gminski (analyst) will have the call.
Tuesday's game is the last in UNC's nine-game, nearly six-week homestand. Carolina's last road game was a one-point loss on Dec. 3 at top-ranked Kentucky and its next game away from the Smith Center will be Saturday at Florida State. Starting Saturday in Tallahassee, UNC will play four of six games on the road.
Carolina opened ACC play with an 83-60 win over Boston College at home on Saturday afternoon and has won eight games in a row.
Miami enters Tuesday's game with a record of 9-5 and lost its ACC opener 52-51 at Virginia on Saturday night.
Against Miami, the Tar Heels will be aiming for their Smith Center-record 28th win in a row in the Smith Center and their 29th victory in a row at home overall (including a 2010 NIT game in Carmichael Arena). The overall UNC home winning streak record is 32 games, set from 1926-29.
Carolina is ranked No. 3 in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today coaches polls this week. Miami is unranked.
UPCOMING: After Tuesday's game, the Tar Heels will visit Florida State on Saturday Jan. 14 and Virginia Tech on Thursday Jan. 19 before hosting NC State (Jan. 26) and Georgia Tech (Jan. 29) in back-to-back home games.
THE SERIES VS. UM
Carolina leads the series with the Hurricanes, 16-2, including eight consecutive Tar Heel wins over Miami.
UNC holds an 8-1 advantage in Chapel Hill, a 6-1 edge on the road and a 2-0 edge at neutral sites.
