CHAPEL HILL --- The North Carolina women's basketball program has added freshman guard Erika Johnson as a transfer from the University of California, head coach Sylvia Hatchell announced recently. Johnson, who appeared in seven games for Cal earlier this season, will be eligible to play following the conclusion of the fall semester in 2012.
"We are absolutely thrilled to add Erika to our program," Hatchell said. "She is someone we really liked throughout her high school recruiting process and I think she will be a great fit for our team. Not only is she the type of tall, athletic wing player that we love, but she is an exceptional student who I think will thrive at Carolina. It will be a real boost to have a player of her character and ability with us in practice for the rest of the season as well as in the locker room."
A native of Seattle, Wash., Johnson was rated the No. 3 wing player and the No. 21 player overall in the class of 2011 by ESPN HoopGurlz. The 2011 Gatorade Washington State Player of the Year, Johnson led her Holy Names Academy team to a perfect 29-0 record and a state championship as a senior.
