The North Carolina women's golf team kicked off its spring season with an eighth-place finish at the Central District Invitational. The Tar Heels shot a 12-over-par 300 in the final round for an 896 total. Carolina was led by Katherine Perry on Tuesday as she fired a 1-under-par 71.

Perry, a sophomore from Cary, N.C., finished with a 6-over-par 222 total to tie for 16th place overall. Sophomore Casey Grice, from College Station, Texas, placed 20th after carding a 6-over 78 in the final round and finished at 7-over 223. Another sophomore, Jackie Chang, from Paradise Valley, Ariz., tied for 28th place to finish with a 225 total after carding a 76 on Tuesday. Allie White, a senior from Lancaster, Ohio, shot a final-round 75 to finish with a 227 total in a tie for 28th. Junior Courtney Gunter, from Matthews, N.C., finished with a 238 total in 70th place after struggling with an 85 on Tuesday.

TCU captured the team championship with an 882 total after firing a 296 in the final round. Oklahoma was the runner-up one stroke back at 883 after carding a 299 on Tuesday. Vanderbilt finished third with an 884 total while LSU finished fourth at 885, Michigan State finished fifth at 887, Ohio State finished sixth at 893 and Iowa State placed seventh with an 894 total.

Chirapat Jao-Javanil of Oklahoma captured the individual title by firing a 4-under-par 212 total which included a 2-over 74 in the final round. Tessa Teachman of LSU was the runner-up two strokes back at 2-under 214 and a 2-under 70 on Tuesday. Sasikam On-jam of Iowa State finished third at even par 216. Two players tied for fourth place at 1-over 217 - Kent State's Mercedes Germino and Ohio State's Amy Meier.

The 54-hole event was played at River Wilderness Golf Club which features a par 72, 6,218-yard layout. The Tar Heels return to action March 2-4 at the Darius Rucker Invitational in Hilton Head, S.C.
