UNC Wraps Up Winning Weekend

The UNC women finished 8-5 and the men were 6-4 in two days of fencing over the weekend at the Northwestern Duals in Evanston, Ill.
Saturday, on Day 1 of competition, the Carolina women were 4-3 and the men went 2-3. Women's competition kicked off the day, with the Tar Heels falling in their first three meets, 17-10 to No. 3 Notre Dame, 20-7 to No. 6 Ohio State and 14-13 to Stevens Tech. Carolina then won four in a row, 16-11 over Stanford, 23-4 over Cal Tech, 15-12 over Wayne State and 15-12 over UC San Diego. As the women's meets wrapped up, the men moved into action. Carolina opened with a 17-10 win over Wayne State, then fell to No. 4 Notre Dame 20-7. The Tar Heels beat host Northwestern 21-6 then fell to No. 5 Ohio State 18-9 and No. 2 Princeton 22-5.
On Sunday, the Tar Heel women went 4-2, falling to No. 2 Princeton (24-3) and No. 4 Northwestern (19-8) but beating Fairleigh Dickinson (19-8), Detroit Mercy (20-7), Cleveland State (22-5) and Lawrence (20-7) The men dropped their opener to Stanford (17-10) then topped UC San Diego (15-12), Cal Tech (26-1), Cleveland State (21-6) and Detroit Mercy (26-1).
Next up for the Tar Heels are the Duke Dual Meets. The men's team fences in Durham on Saturday and the women's team is in action there on Sunday.
