TALLAHASSEE, FLA. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team is in seventh place after the second round of the Seminole Intercollegiate. The Tar Heels fired a 6-over-par 290 on Saturday and were led by freshman Bailey Patrick who fired a 1-under 70.
Patrick scored three birdies and two bogies on his way to 1-under 70, his low collegiate round thus far. The Charlotte, N.C., native stands tied for 12th with a 1-under 141 total going into Sunday's final round. Redshirt junior Patrick Barrett and freshman Brandon Dalinka at both tied for 21st place at 1-over 143. Barrett, from Pinehurst, N.C., fired an even par 71 on Saturday while Dalinka, from Newtown, Pa., carded a 3-over 74. Clark Palmer, a junior from Augusta, Ga., shot a 4-over 75 for a 7-over 149 total and is tied for 59th place. Junior Michael McGowan, from Southern Pines, N.C., carded a 77 for a 153 total and is tied for 80th. He is one stroke behind senior Matt Raudenbush, from Pine Valley, N.J., who has a 152 total and is tied for 77th. Raudenbush, competing as an individual, posted a 76 on Saturday.
Georgia Tech grabbed a 5-stroke lead over Florida State by firing a 10-under-par 274 in the second round for a 16-under 552 two-day total. The Seminoles fired a 5-under 279 on Saturday for an 11-under 557 total. Kennesaw State is in third place at 1-over 569 while Mercer is fourth at 570, Jacksonville is fifth at 573 and Michigan State is sixth at 574, two strokes ahead of the Tar Heels at 576. Arkansas State is one stroke behind Carolina in eighth place at 577.
Chase Seifert of Florida State grabbed the individual lead by firing a 4-under-par 67 for an 8-under 134 total. Kennesaw State's Jeff Karlsson, the first-round leader, is just one stroke back in second place at 7-under 135 after firing a 1-under 70 on Saturday. James White of Georgia Tech is third at 6-under 136 while Trey Valentine of South Florida is fourth at 5-under 137 and three players are tied for fifth at 4-under 138 - Georgia Tech's Anders Albertson, Florida State's Brooks Koepka and Jacksonville's Jamey Salmon.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday at Southwood Golf Course which features a par 71, 7,050-yard layout. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
