Tar Heels To Host Davidson In WNIT Opener
July 17, 2012 | Women's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL --- The full bracket for the 2012 Preseason WNIT was released Tuesday and North Carolina will open the event at home against in-state foe Davidson on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. The winner of the opening round game will meet the winner of the Liberty-Duquesne game in a quarterfinal on Nov. 11. The other four teams on UNC's side of the bracket are Georgetown, Sacred Heart, Delaware and Sam Houston State.
The Tar Heels are 3-0 all-time against Davidson, with the last meeting coming during the 2005-06 campaign and return SoCon Player of the Year Sophia Aleksandravisius.
The event guarantees a minimum of three games for each team in the field, so first- and second-round losers will be paired up for consolation games on dates to be determined. The final is set for Nov. 18.
Carolina will be looking to repeat its 2008 championship run in the Preseason WNIT, when the Tar Heels defeated Western Carolina, VCU, Xavier and No. 2 Oklahoma en route to the title.
