August 4, 2012 | Women's Basketball
BUDAPEST, Hungary --- North Carolina sprinted out to 23-6 lead after one quarter and never looked back as the Tar Heels defeated the Hungary U20 National Team Friday night. Waltiea Rolle and Xylina McDaniel each recorded a double-double for Carolina, which improved to 2-0 on its 10-day tour.
Rolle had a game-high 24 points to go with 10 rebounds and three blocks, while McDaniel 11 points and 11 boards.
Tierra Ruffin-Pratt chipped in 13 while Danielle Butts scored 10 on an impressive 5-of-6 shooting.
Playing with just eight healthy players once again, Carolina closed the first quarter on a 10-1 run to effectively put the game away in the opening 10 minutes. The teams were separated by just four points over the final three quarters, but the host Hungarians never threatened after the hot UNC start.
The Tar Heels outrebounded Hungary 48-34 and held the junior national team to just 27 percent shooting.
Antoinette Bannister (5), Brittany Rountree (3), N'Dea Bryant (2) and Hillary Summers (2) all scored as well, ensuring all eight healthy players would appear on the scoresheet for the second straight contest.
The travel party will move on to the final stop on the tour - Vienna, Austria - Saturday before meeting an Austrian club team on Sunday.
