Tar Heel Spotlight: Kristen Brown
January 22, 2013 | Softball
GoHeels.com will be highlighting each Carolina softball player throughout the 2013 season. Today's Tar Heel spotlight is with Kristen Brown, a freshman from Levittown, N.Y.
GoHeels.com: What is the best memory of your softball career so far?
Kristen Brown: My favorite memory of softball was leading my team to win the Long Island Championship during my senior year. I pitched for my high school team and loved every second of it. Our goal was to make it to States, and we achieved it. The day of states was the day of my prom, and I choose to go to states and help out my team. We ended up losing in semifinals, and I made it back for half of my prom. I was so devastated that my season was over, but on the plus side I was able to experience my senior prom.
GH: How did you get started playing softball?
KB: I loved sports as a kid, and my family always loved MLB baseball. My grandpa constantly tells me that he made me into the softball player I am today. When I was younger, all of the grandchildren would get together and play wiffle ball on his front lawn. I loved it and decided I would try softball when I was in second grade.
GH: Why Carolina?
KB: For the great traditions, academic success and a chance to make it to the world series.
GH: What is your dream profession?
KB: To be a physical therapist.
GH: What is your favorite class this semester?
KB: My philosophy class is my favorite class this semester. The title of the class is "What is the meaning of Life?" No one will ever know what the meaning of life is and it is interesting to hear others opinions.
GH: What is your favorite pre-game meal?
KB: A sandwich from the Deli.
GH: What is your walk-up song?
KB: "Sweet Nothing” by Calvin Harris
GH: If you played another sport besides softball, what would it be?
KB: Volleyball
