Freshmen Duo Advance To Main Draw At ITA All-Americans

The first-year standouts for the Tar Heels have each won six matches, three in both the pre qualifying and qualifying draws, to advance into the main draw.
Neither player dropped a set in winning three matches on Tuesday and Wednesday in the qualifying draw.
No. 8 seed Whitney Kay won her first round match against Virginia's Rachel Peirson, but was upended in the second round by William & Mary's Marie Belaya.
In doubles, Carter and Loeb won a pair of matches, including an 8-4 dismantling of the fourth-seeded duo from Florida in the second round. However, the Carolina freshmen showed they are human and actually lost in the third round to Duke, 8-1.
The main draw begins Thursday and Carter and Loeb will play at 1:30 p.m., local time out west. If they win their first round matches, Carter lines up with second-seeded Lauren Herring from Georgia, while Loeb stands to take on third-seeded Zsofi Susanyi of California.
