Tar Heels In The NBA, Nov. 19
November 19, 2013 | Men's Basketball
compiled by Andrew Tie
Box Score of the week
In a loss to Houston, Ty Lawson did all he could to help the Nuggets. He had 28 points, a career-high 17 assists, two rebounds, two steals and one block on the night. Lawson shot 11-for-19 from the field, including 2-for-4 from long range, and 4-for-6 from the charity stripe.
Though the Nuggets have struggled and started off the year with a 4-5 record, Lawson has been a bright spot. He's been averaging close to 21 points, nine assists and four rebounds per game, which would all be career-highs for the Denver star.
Rookie spotlight
Reggie Bullock hasn't had a chance to play in every game this year for a talented Clippers team, but he's slowly carving out his niche in a deep wing rotation. Similar to his UNC days, Bullock has hit the boards and played tough defense.
Last week, Bullock played six tough minutes against the Thunder in which he guarded Kevin Durant, grabbed three boards and hit two free throws. He still hasn't hit a three this season, but based off his play at UNC, he should start to hit them as he gets more comfortable.
Player on the rise
Tyler Zeller's numbers don't look like he's a player on the rise, but he's still catching up in conditioning because of injuries and an appendectomy about five weeks ago. His minutes have slowly increased, as he got 14 and 15 minutes in two games last week.
Once his conditioning is fully back, Zeller will still have to battle for minutes in a loaded frontcourt, though the health of Andrew Bynum or Anderson Varejao is no guarantee.
Upcoming games to watch
On 8 p.m. Thursday on TNT, Reggie Bullock and the Clippers travel to Oklahoma City. Last time they played, Bullock spent some time guarding Kevin Durant. Following the game at 10:30 p.m. Ty Lawson will face off with Derrick Rose.
Friday night on ESPN will have another good doubleheader. First, Danny Green and the Spurs face Ed Davis and the Grizzlies, and then Harrison Barnes and the Warriors will take on the Lakers.
