Tar Heels In The NBA, Dec. 3
December 3, 2013 | Men's Basketball
compiled by Andrew Tie
Box Score of the week
Harrison Barnes continues to benefit from an injury to Andre Iguodala. Against the Thunder, Barnes posted a career-high 26 points, two rebounds, four assists and one steal on 10-for-15 shooting from the field. He was 1-for-2 from deep and 5-for-6 on free throws. Had it not been for a last second Russell Westbrook shot, Barnes would've helped his team to a victory. He's been posting better numbers in his second year with the momentum from last year's postseason, plus some extra playing time at the moment.
Play of the week
Something we didn't hear a lot of during his time at UNC-Wayne Ellington with the thunderous dunk. Though he's known more as a shooter, Ellington took this backdoor pass and slammed it home. Andrew Bogut wisely moved out of the way before he became part of a poster.
Player on the rise
Marvin Williams missed a few games earlier in the year due to injury, but he's come back very strong. In his last nine games, Williams has averaged 12.9 points and 6.4 rebounds. He's even cracked the starting lineup on a Jazz squad with other intriguing frontcourt players. Williams has battled injuries and position fits throughout his career. It's good to see him playing better and getting his chance to play.
Upcoming games to watch
Thursday night basketball on TNT begins with the Knicks and the Nets squaring off. Raymond Felton will lead the Knicks and hopefully not slip on any spilled drinks. That game starts at 7 p.m.
On Friday, the Nuggets will be on ESPN at 7:30 to play the Celtics. That means UNC fans can watch Ty Lawson once again.
