Tar Heels Picked 2013 ACC Favorite

GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina has been chosen as the favorite to win the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference softball regular season, as voted on by the league's eight head coaches.
The Tar Heels, who won the regular season championship last year, received 45 points in the vote. Coaches were not allowed to include their own team on their ballot.
Florida State, which came in second place in 2012, had three first place votes and 44 points. Georgia Tech, which won the conference tournament title last year, picked up the remaining first place vote and tallied 38 points.
Rounding out the preseason predictions were Virginia Tech with 31 points, Virginia with 23 points, NC State with 20 points, Maryland with 14 points, and Boston College with nine points.
Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech all represented the conference in the 2012 NCAA Softball Championship.
Carolina was tabbed No. 21 in the ESPN/ASA preseason poll and No. 22 in the USA Today/NFCA preseason rankings.
After winning the ACC regular season title, North Carolina finished the 2012 season ranked No. 24 with a 43-15 mark as after the Tar Heels advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 10th time in the last 12 years.
