Big Monday Debut For Tar Heels At UVa

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. -- North Carolina (11-6, 1-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) will face a quick turnaround when it travels to play at Virginia (13-5, 4-1) on Monday night in Charlottesville, Va.
Carolina picked up its first ACC win on Saturday over Boston College, giving the team just 48 hours to prepare for and travel to Charlottesville for Monday's game.
The Tar Heels will be making their ESPN Big Monday debut. The expanded ACC began playing Monday night conference games this season. UNC and the Cavaliers will tip off just after 7 p.m. in the John Paul Jones Arena.
ESPN will televise the game nationally with Sean McDonough (play-by-play), Jay Bilas (analyst), Jeff Van Gundy (analyst) and Jeannine Edwards (reporter) on the call.
The contest also will be carried nationally on satellite radio by XM and Sirius (channel 85). GoHeels TV subscribers can listen to the Tar Heel Sports Network broadcast online.
The Tar Heels are coming off an 82-71 home win over Boston College on Saturday afternoon, a win that snapped a three-game losing streak and helped UNC avoid its first 0-4 ACC start.
The UNC team practiced on Sunday afternoon in Chapel Hill before flying to Charlottesville that evening.
Virginia beat Florida State in Charlottesville on Saturday afternoon, topping the Seminoles for the second time in two weeks and sweeping the season series with FSU. UVa has won four of its first five ACC games (beating Wake Forest, NC State and Florida State twice and losing at Duke).
Carolina leads the series with Virginia, 128-50. The Tar Heels have won 10 of their last 12 games against UVa (since January of 2006), losing in 2010 in Chapel Hill and in 2013 in Charlottesville since a loss on Jan. 19, 2006, in Charlottesville.
Carolina has won four of its last five games in Charlottesville. Carolina has an all-time record of 44-32 at Virginia, including a 4-1 record at John Paul Jones Arena (UNC wins in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012 and a UVa win in 2013).
UNC is 5-3 in Charlottesville under head coach Roy Williams with wins in 2005 (110-76), 2008 (75-74), 2009 (83-61), 2011 (62-56) and 2012 (54-51) and losses in 2004 (72-74), 2006 (68-72) and 2013 (52-61). Williams 15-5 as a head coach against Virginia, including a 13-4 mark at Carolina and a 2-1 record at Kansas.
After Monday's game, the Tar Heels will will have six days off before hosting Clemson on Sunday Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. in Chapel Hill. Following the contest vs. the Tigers, Carolina will close out the month of January on Wednesday Jan. 29 at Georgia Tech before hosting NC State on Saturday Feb. 1.
