2014 Campaign Underway As Tar Heels Open Practice Monday
January 6, 2014 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Monday marked the first day of the 2014 campaign for the North Carolina softball team as the Tar Heels hit the field for their first official practices of the season.
Classes don't start until Wednesday, but UNC's first game is just 27 practice days away, and the team is getting ready to go.
"I'm really excited to be back out practicing," head coach Donna J. Papa said. "We had a month off, but now we're ready to go with just 27 practices until our first game. I feel like this team is in a different place than we've ever been coming back from the fall."
"We had a really good fall season, achieving our goals of getting mentally tougher, stronger, and becoming better players. We're certainly going to continue building on that. I'm thrilled to be back at it and hear the balls hit the leather."
Carolina opens the season on Feb. 7 against Northern Iowa at the Louisiana Lafayette Tournament, where the Tar Heels will also face Texas, Purdue and host Louisiana Lafayette. View the complete 2014 schedule here.
