October 18, 2014 | Baseball
Chapel Hill, N.C. -- Brett Daniels threw 6.1 scoreless innings and the Navy squad exploded for seven runs in their last three innings to take a 7-2 win over Blue on Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.
Navy broke a scoreless tie after four innings with two runs in the top of the fifth. With two outs and Elijah Sutherland and Adam Pate on second and third, Alex Raburn ripped a two-run single to left for the first runs of the game.
Navy kept rolling in the sixth as Adrian Chacon led off with a single and Joe Dudek drilled a double to put men on second and third. Elijah Sutherland laid down a suicide squeeze bunt to drive in Chacon, then Adam Pate put down his own suicide squeeze bunt to score Dudek for a 4-0 lead. Brian Miller then stroked a single to right to score Sutherland for a 5-0 lead.
After Tyler Ramirez singled in the seventh, Adrian Chacon homered to left to put Navy up 7-0. Blue scored their only runs of the game on Skye Bolt's two-run homer to right center in the seventh and final inning for the final 7-2 margin.
Daniels picked up the win by giving up no runs on five hits while striking out six in 6.1 innings of work. Hansen Butler suffered the loss for Blue.
The two teams will wrap up the Fall World Series with a 6:00 p.m. game on Sunday at the historic Durham Athletic Park. The game is free and open to the public. Please note that this is not at the DBAP, the home of the Durham Bulls.
