Akkerman/Vazquez Victorious At Clay Court Invite

CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina freshmen Marika Akkerman and Cassandra Vazquez won their doubles match in the morning, and later on both won their singles matches Thursday at the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla.
Akkerman and Vazquez came back from a 4-1 deficit against Brigante and Miyazaki from Oklahoma to win, 8-6, and head to the second round on Friday. They will face Kucharova and Muller from Auburn, the No. 1 seeded duo, Friday at 3 p.m at the Grand Cypress site.
Vazquez advanced to the second round after her win over Alizee Michaud of Stetson 6-2, 6-3. She will compete against No. 7 seed Daneika Borthwick of Florida State.
Akkerman cruised to a 6-4, 6-0, victory over Auburn's Andie Dikosavlevic, and will face No. 1 seed Stephanie Wagner of Miami on Friday at 1 p.m.
The event continues through Sunday.
