• North Carolina fell to 2-3 on the season and 0-2 in the ACC. The Tar Heels have dropped their last three games.
• QB Marquise Williams rushed a career-high 19 times for 94 yards. His previous high for carries in a game was 18 at Blacksburg last year. He leads the team with 243 rushing yards this season. This was the second time this year Williams was UNC's leading ground gainer (also against San Diego State).
• Williams' 94 net rushing yards includes minus 33 yards charged to his rushing total resulting from Virginia Tech's five sacks. Williams gained 127 yards on the ground before the sack yardage is included in his net total.
• Williams completed 18 of 27 passes for 186 yards. He passed Matt Baker for 13th place in UNC history in career passing yardage with 2,974.
• Williams tossed his ninth touchdown pass of the season and his 25th as a Tar Heel. He is tied for ninth in school history in career touchdown passes with Charlie Justice and Rod Elkins.
• Williams accounted for 281 of Carolina's 323 yards of total offense (187 passing and 94 rushing).
• WR Quinshad Davis caught his third touchdown pass this year on a 9-yard pass from Williams in the fourth quarter. Davis has 18 career touchdown receptions, tied for third in UNC history with Art Weiner (1946-49). He is three shy of tying Hakeem Nicks for the most TD receptions by a Tar Heel.
• TB Elijah Hood scored his third rushing touchdown of the season, a 1-yard plunge early in the fourth quarter. He is tied with TB Romar Morris, WR Mack Hollins and WR Quinshad Davis for the team lead in touchdowns.
• CB M.J. Stewart made his first career interception early in the fourth quarter. Carolina has picked off a pass in each of the five games so far in 2014.
• WR Ryan Switzer led the Tar Heels with five receptions for 67 yards.
• Virginia Tech had the ball for 22 minutes and six seconds longer than the Tar Heels. The Hokies had possession for 41:03 and ran 84 plays to UNC's 66 plays in 18:57.
• Carolina gained 4.9 yards per play; the Hokies gained 4.2 yards per play.
• Virginia Tech scored 21 of its 34 points off UNC turnovers, including a fumble on a sack, an interception that was returned for a score and a botched punt.
