Brown and Walker Lead UNC to Victory in Split With UNCG

Lewisville N.C. - The Tar Heels traveled to Lewisville, N.C. to meet up with the UNC Greensboro Spartans at Forsyth Country Day School in a Sunday afternoon doubleheader.
Game One
The Spartans were the first to make a mark on the scoreboard, scoring three runs in the first inning off of UNC starting pitcher Kendra Lynch.
Coach Papa's squad responded immediately in the second when Tracy Chandless and Erin Satterfield scored thanks to an error by UNCG pitcher on a Dani Garcielita ground ball. Kristen Brown then lined a double into centerfield bringing home Lauren Walker and Garcielita.
Brown would tally another two RBIs in the fourth; sending a ball into centerfield letting Darby Rosen and Walker cross home.
Sydney Matzko entered the circle in the fourth and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and fanning three batters.
The runs kept coming for the Tar Heels in sixth when Brown hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing in Elena Covert and her RBI total up to five. Walker scored from third later in the inning off of a wild pitch to seal the win, 8-3.
Game Two
Once again the scoring began early, as UNCG scored twice in the top of the first but the ladies from Chapel Hill responded in the bottom of the inning. Aquilla Mateen lead off with a single and stole second base before being driven home by Taylor Wike. Jenna Kelly and Tracy Chandless both tripled and the Tar Heels left the inning leading 5-2.
Kaylee Carlson started the game, pitching three innings, striking out three while allowing five hits and two runs.
Greensboro came back in the fourth after Lauren Fuller entered the circle, tallying three hits and two runs. UNC would score two in the bottom of the inning to lead 7-2.
The tide changed in the sixth when the Spartans sparked a late inning rally, scoring five runs off o f six hits to take the lead 9-7.
Despite having the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, the Tar Heels were unable to regain the lead, as the UNCG defense held firm and came away with the win.
