November 9, 2014 | Women's Basketball
Wingate is led by head coach Ann Hancock, who spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at Carolina, helping the Tar Heels win the 1994 title.
22 points from sophomore Allisha Gray led four Tar Heels in double figures last Wednesday in the 88-27 exhibition win over Carson-Newman. Xylina McDaniel added 15 points as her and Gray both went 7-of-10 from the field in the game. Carolina shot 62.1 percent in the second half and 55% for the game.
Freshman guard Jamie Cherry had 13 points, while senior Danielle Butts tossed in 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in only 14 minutes off the bench.
The regular season gets underway Friday at 4 p.m., against Howard at Carmichael Arena. Carolina also hosts No. 23 UCLA on Sunday at 2 p.m., in one of the best games of the opening weekend across the country.
