CHAPEL HILL—North Carolina (9-3) will say goodbye to 2014 and to regular season non-conference play when it hosts William & Mary on Tuesday night. Tipoff is set for 7:04 p.m., and RSN's Wes Durham (play-by-play) and Mike Gminski (analyst) will be on hand to call the action for a regional telecast.
RSN stations slated to carry Tuesday's game include Fox Sports Carolinas, Fox Sports South, Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic Plus and NESN, among other regional networks. Click here for a full list.
Carolina has gone 9-3 so far in non-conference action in 2014-15, posting a 3-1 mark against ranked teams while losing to unranked Butler and Iowa.
Last Saturday, the Tar Heels returned from a week off for the holidays to dominate UAB, 89-58, in the first game in the Smith Center in nearly three weeks. Marcus Paige (16 points), Kennedy Meeks (14) and Justin Jackson (13) led six double-figure Tar Heel scorers.
The Tribe is coached by former Tar Heel Tony Shaver (UNC '74), who is in his 12th year as the head coach in Williamsburg. Former Carolina guard Jonathan Holmes (UNC '03) is Shaver's associate head coach.
Carolina leads the all-time series with William & Mary, 19-3, and has won seven consecutive meetings in the series (since the 1977-78 season). The series dates to 1912, Carolina's second season as a varsity program.
Most recently, these two teams met in back-to-back seasons in Chapel Hill in the 2010 calendar year with Carolina winning an NIT game in Carmichael Arena late in 2009-10 and a game just before Christmas in 2010-11. The NIT game was played in Carmichael and not in the Smith Center, which was undergoing renovations that began shortly after the end of the 2009-10 regular season.
The two teams have met just three times in the last 34 seasons (since Jan. 4, 1982).
