LeHardy & Women's XC Named All-Academics

NEW ORLEANS - The USTFCCCA announced the 2013 Division I All-Academic Cross Country women's honorees on Monday, listing North Carolina's Annie LeHardy among those recognized.

"From the beginning, we've said our academic goals are just as important as our athletic goals and these awards are indicative that our athletes feel the same," North Carolina head coach Mark VanAlstyne said. "Annie LeHardy and the entire women's cross country team have worked tremendously hard toward our ultimate goal of being the best in the NCAA, academically and athletically, so I know they won't stop here."

A total of 129 student-athletes represent 78 institutions and 21 conferences. National champion Providence and Colorado were the best represented programs with five individuals apiece, followed by eight different schools with four honorees each. Those eight schools are Butler, Virginia, Georgetown, Arkansas, Minnesota, Penn State, Florida State and Dartmouth.

The ACC led the way with 18 total honorees, followed by the Big East with 16 and the Pac-12 and SEC with 15 each.

Of the 45 All-Americans, 29 earned All-Academic honors; as did 15 of the top 25 finishers. Sixteen student-athletes reported 4.0 cumulative GPAs.

Honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.25 or greater and must have finished as an All-American or among the 15 finishers (or 10 percent) in their regional meet in 2013.

In addition to All-Academic honorees, the USTFCCCA also announce those women's teams who earned 2013 Division I All-Academic Cross Country status. The Carolina women's cross country team was among the honored teams.

The Scholar Teams of the Year were among 217 women's teams that earned All-Academic Team honors for the 2013 season. Programs must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.00 or greater to qualify for the award.
