February 26, 2014 | Men's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina (20-7, 10-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) will try to win its 10th game in a row when it visits N.C. State (17-10, 7-7) tonight in Raleigh. The Tar Heels and Wolfpack will tip off at 8:06 p.m. in the PNC Arena.
The syndicated ACC Network of stations will televise the game with Tim Brant (play-by-play) and Mike Gminski (analyst) on the call. Here's a list of affiliates televising the game.
The contest also will be carried nationally on satellite radio by XM (channel 193) and Sirius (channel 135). GoHeels TV subscribers can listen to the game at GoHeels.com.
The Tar Heels re-entered the national polls this week after a seven-week absence. UNC grabbed the No. 19 spot in the Associated Press poll and No. 21 in the coaches poll after finishing 4-0 in an eight-day stretch (beating No. 25 Pitt, Florida State, No. 5 Duke and Wake Forest between Saturday Feb. 15 and Saturday Feb. 22).
NCSU enters the game having won three of its last five games. The Wolfpack is returning home after playing three consecutive contests on the road (losing at Syracuse and Clemson and winning at Virginia Tech). Overall, NCSU has played five of its last six games on the road, going 3-3 during that stretch (which began on Feb. 1 with a loss in Chapel Hill to the Tar Heels).
The Tar Heels started 1-4 in ACC play this season but has improved to 10-4 and fourth in the conference standings, a half-game behind Duke (11-4). Carolina has won nine games in a row, its longest winning streak since a nine-game streak in 2011-12 (the Tar Heels actually had two nine-game winning streaks that season). The last Tar Heel streak longer than nine games was a 10-game streak in January and February of 2009.
The Tar Heels lead the all-time series with NC State, 149-76. Carolina beat the Wolfpack 84-70 earlier this month in Chapel Hill. The teams split a pair of meetings last season with each winning at home.
UNC has won 15 of the last 16, 21 of the last 23 and 38 of its last 47 games against NC State.
Carolina is 58-45 all-time against NC State in Raleigh, including a 10-4 mark in the PNC Arena (formerly known as the Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena and the RBC Center). UNC has won 13 of its last 17 games against the Wolfpack in Raleigh, losing in 2013, 2007, 2003 and 2002 since 1996.
Roy Williams is 26-2 as a head coach against NC State, including a 5-0 record at Kansas and a 21-2 mark at Carolina.
