Carolina (4-2) Looks to Advance at Chicago Style Invitational on Friday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina will travel to Chicago on Friday, Feb. 7 to face Illinois-Chicago, Boise State and Bowling Green State in the 16th Annual Chicago Style Invitational at 7:30 p.m. The meet is the largest women's gymnastics invitational in the world and includes athletes of all age groups. Carolina will compete against the three other collegiate teams in the NCAA division.
The Tar Heels improved to 3-1 in the EAGL, 4-2 overall after tallying their highest score of the season to beat Pittsburgh at home last Friday. Haley Watts placed first in the all-around with a score of 39.150 and Lexi Cappalli took second with a 39.075. Acacia Cosentino and senior co-captains Kristin Aloi and Michelle Ikoma also helped to fuel the team, and all are expected to come out strong this Friday.
Concerning Carolina's competition this weekend, the Boise State Broncos (5-2) are ranked 18th in the country and look to be the Tar Heels' toughest match-up. They are led by juniors Ciera Perkins and Kelsey Morris, and have earned a season-high score of 196.025. The Bowling Green Falcons, ranked 39th in the country with a record of 3-2, are also not to be underestimated. The Falcons are led by Alyssa Nocella, Lauren Feely and Gina Locingo, and will enter Friday's invitational on a three-meet winning streak. The Illinois-Chicago Flames are 2-6 on the season and hold a high score of 192.650. They are led by senior Catherine Dion.
Upon returning from Chicago, the Tar Heels will prepare for their next meet against in-state rival NC State on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in Raleigh.
