Resetting The Scene In Gainesville
June 2, 2014 | Baseball
After a very long Sunday at the ballpark, Carolina and Long Beach State left late on Sunday night having decided nothing in an NCAA Tournament elimination game. The game, slated for a 1 p.m. start, was plagued by multiple rain delays totaling over six hours.
Safe to say @RichaelMussell has a job with us when he gets back to Chapel Hill if he wants it... pic.twitter.com/iHa8awddpY

When it was finally suspended Sunday evening, the Dirtbags held a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh inning. Long Beach, the visiting team, will have runners on first and second with one out when the game resumes at noon today.
Has someone already used "Rainesville Regional" yet to describe this wknd? If not, I will be the first.

If the Tar Heels are able to escape from the top of the seventh, the bottom of the inning looks promising, as Skye Bolt (who already smacked a two-run homer in the game), Wood Myers and Alex Raburn are due to the plate.
The resumption of Sunday's game will be available on ESPN3 and via the Tar Heel Sports Network. The winner will face College of Charleston approximately 55 minutes after the conclusion of the first game, and would have to defeat the Cougars twice (with the final game coming Tuesday at noon, if necessary) to advance to the super regionals. College of Charleston is the only regional four seed still alive in the NCAA Tournament.
Rain delays have been beneficial for the Diamond Heels already over the weekend. They returned from a lengthy delay on Saturday and plated five third-inning runs against national No. 2 seed Florida on the way to a 5-2 win.
