Tar Heels Take The Court Friday
August 15, 2014 | Men's Basketball
PARADISE ISLAND, THE BAHAMAS—Members of the University of North Carolina men's basketball team flew to the Bahamas on Thursday and spent the late afternoon and evening getting acquainted with their surroundings at the Atlantis resort.
The team will play a pair of exhibitions this weekend, facing the Providence Storm on Friday Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. and the Bahamas All-Stars on Saturday Aug. 16 at 5 p.m. The games will be played at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.
There will be no radio or television broadcasts or online streams of the contests. Fans can follow the contests via live stats at the links above.
Look for exclusive, behind-the-scenes coverage with the team from GoHeels.com and @UNC_Basketball in the Bahamas throughout the trip.
The squad practiced in Chapel Hill on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday before flying to the Bahamas on Thursday afternoon.
NCAA rules allow teams to take foreign trips in the preseason once per four years. Carolina has made similar summer trips to the Bahamas twice previously under head coach Roy Williams (prior to the 2005-06 and 2010-11 campaigns).
UNC returns three starters and several other key players in 2014-15 from last season, including All-America guard Marcus Paige, backcourt mate Nate Britt and forwards J.P. Tokoto, Kennedy Meeks and Brice Johnson. A highly-rated freshman class of Joel Berry II, Justin Jackson and Theo Pinson will make their Tar Heel debuts this weekend.
The Tar Heels will return the Bahamas again in three months, that time for the regular season Battle 4 Atlantis tournament on Nov. 26-28. The field for that event also includes Georgetown, Florida, UCLA, Wisconsin, Butler, UAB and Oklahoma.
