Offensive Explosion Sends UNC Over Gardner-Webb

RICHMOND, Va. - Three wins so far for No. 5 North Carolina in 2014, and three game-winning goals for Andy Craven. The senior forward struck again in a 1-0 victory over VCU Sunday night.

Craven's goal in the 57th was the difference as Carolina improved to 3-1 on the season.

VCU's best chance of the night came in the opening moments of the second half. Midfielder Mario Herrera
Meraz nearly gave his club the lead when he hit the post just 24 seconds out of halftime.

North Carolina produced more shots than its opponent for the fourth time in four games. Sunday night saw the Tar Heels own a 10-8 shot advantage over the home-standing Rams.

Tar Heel keeper Brendan Moore made two saves to notch his second clean sheet of the weekend, and 12th of his career.

Garrett Cyprus made three saves in a losing effort for the Rams, who dropped to 2-2 on the year.

Carolina returns home for its Atlantic Coast Conference opener Friday against Pitt from Fetzer Field at 7 p.m., on ESPN3.
