Aney Advances To Qualifying Bracket At Riviera/ITA

Aney, one of three Tar Heels participating in the prequalifying round, won a pair of matches on Saturday, and then topped Monica Robinson of Notre Dame in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to move into the qualifying bracket that begins on Tuesday.
The Rochester, Minn., product began Saturday with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, victory over Stefania Hristov of Texas A&M. Later in the day, Aney defeated Mai El Kamash of Ole Miss - 7-5, 6-3.
Seniors Ashley Dai and Kate Vialle both lost on Saturday in their first matches of the tournament. Texas Tech's Sabrina Federici got the better of Day - 6-4, 6-2, while Elena Cerezo-Codina of Virginia Tech won 6-1, 7-6 (3) over Vialle.
On Tuesday, Aney will face Miami sophomore Wendy Zhang in the opening round of the qualifying bracket.
Senior Whitney Kay will take on top-seed Jasmine Lee of Ole Miss.
Meanwhile, in qualifying doubles, Vialle and Dai are the No. 2 seed and are slated for a match with Maryland's Hovsepyan and Tour.
