Tar Heels Take In Naval Academy
November 12, 2015 | Men's Basketball
ANNAPOLIS, MD.—The University of North Carolina basketball team made the most of its day in Annapolis on Thursday. In town to prepare for Friday's 2015-16 season opener against Temple in the Veterans Classic hosted by the United States Naval Academy, Thursday was anything but a typical road trip practice day.
Carolina players toured the Naval Academy, learning about the history of the Navy and Marine Corps while also meeting military personnel and getting a taste of life at the service academy.
In the morning, head coach Roy Williams and Tar Heel captains Joel James, Brice Johnson and Marcus Paige observed the morning colors at Tecumseh Court.
Later in the morning, the Tar Heel traveling party toured the Naval Academy, getting a behind-the-scenes look at the life and training of the midshipmen. At midday, the team ate in King Hall, mingling with servicemen and women as they ate.
The afternoon concluded with a full team practice at Alumni Hall, site of Friday's game versus Temple. On Thursday evening, the team ate with the other participating teams and dignitaries at Dahlgreen Hall.
The Tar Heels will follow a more typical gameday schedule on Friday before returning home to Chapel Hill late that night to prepare for Sunday's game against Fairfield.
