Softball Gives Back to the Community for Halloween
November 3, 2015 | Softball
On Friday, Oct. 30, the Carolina softball team participated in two community outreach events to spread Halloween cheer to local children. Hear first hand from sophomore Jillian Ferraro about their day:
At 2 p.m. on Friday, 10 of us (Jillian Ferraro, Lauren Fuller, Aquilla Mateen, Leah Murray, Destiny DeBerry, Dani Garcielita, Taylor Wike, Katelyn Shifflett, Elena Covert, and Kiana Sherlund), along with student-athletes from the gymnastics, men's lacrosse, women's soccer and track and field teams, participated in "Heeloween" at the UNC Children's Hospital. We all dressed up and walked room to room hoping to spread the Halloween spirit to kids who were stuck in the hospital on Halloween. We also visited the pediatric playroom in our costumes. We were able to pass out little goodie bags with Halloween associated activities in them. It was a lot of fun being able to visit different rooms, hoping to cheer up hospital patients.

Then we gathered with the rest of the team in Cary for Miracle League. We played in two games, lasting from 7:15-9:15 p.m. Each member of the team was paired up with a Miracle League player. Miracle League aims to create positive life experiences for children and adults with special needs and for their families through baseball. In Miracle League, everyone wins, resulting in a tie for both games. We shared a lot of smiles and laughs with the miracle league players as we fielded balls, hit, and ran the bases. It was definitely an impactful Friday for UNC Softball!
