CAROLINA NOTES
• Carolina is now 11-2 on the season with both losses coming at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
• Larry Fedora is now 66-38 overall in eight seasons as a head coach and 32-19 in four seasons at North Carolina.
• The Tar Heels are 16-7-2 in football games played in Charlotte, including a 3-5 record in Bank of America Stadium.
• Clemson now leads the series 37-19-1 with wins in six of the last seven games.
• The Tar Heels are now 0-10 against the No. 1 ranked team in the Associated Press poll. This was Carolina's first game against No. 1 since 1999 when Florida State beat the Tar Heels, 42-10.
• Carolina's 11-game win streak came to an end this evening. The 11-game streak is the UNC record.
• Clemson scored 45 points, the most allowed by the Tar Heels this season. The previous high was 34 by NC State.
• The Tigers compiled 608 yards of total offense, most against UNC this season. The previous high was 533 by Duke.
• The Tar Heels scored first on a 30-yard field goal by Nick Weiler. That marked the fifth consecutive game Carolina has scored first and the eighth time in 13 games this season UNC scored first. The Tar Heels are now 6-2 this season when scoring first.
• Clemson took a 7-3 lead with 5:14 to play in the first quarter. That was the first time the Tar Heels trailed in regulation since Pitt led 3-0 in the first quarter on October 29 in the seventh game of the season. Virginia Tech kicked a field goal on its first possession in overtime on November 21st in the 11th game of the season.
• The Tar Heels led 9-7 after the first quarter. This was the fifth straight game Carolina led after the first quarter.
• Carolina trailed 21-16 at the half. This was just the second time this season UNC trailed at the half. Georgia Tech led 21-14 at halftime in Atlanta, but the Tar Heels won the game, 38-31.
• Clemson led 35-23 after the third quarter. That was the first time UNC trailed leading into the fourth quarter since Georgia Tech led 28-24.
• This was the third consecutive game in the series that Carolina scored at least 35 points against Clemson, but the Tigers have won all three games. Clemson beat UNC, 59-38 in 2011, 50-35 in 2014 and 45-37 this evening.
• Clemson's 97-yard scoring drive in the third quarter tied the longest scoring drive against Carolina this season. NC State also had a 97-yard scoring drive against UNC on Nov. 28.
• Carolina scored in all four quarters vs. Clemson and has now scored in 28 of the last 31 quarters.
• Clemson had the ball for 38:56, the most time of possession against UNC this season (previous was 38:45 by Georgia Tech). The Tigers ran 98 plays from scrimmage, the highest number against the Tar Heels this year (previous was 89 by NC State).
PLAYER NOTES
• Marquise Williams broke his own single-season UNC record for rushing yards by a quarterback. He set the record in 2014 with 788 yards. He rushed for 81 yards tonight to set the new standard with 867 yards.
• Williams threw for three touchdowns – a 46-yarder to T.J. Logan, 3-yarder to Ryan Switzer and a 17-yarder to Switzer. Those were the 19th, 20th and 21st passing TDs of the season for Williams and he has 58 for his career. That ties him with T.J. Yates for third place in school history with 58 TD passes.
• Tonight was the fourth time this season and the seventh time in his career that Williams threw at least three touchdown passes in a game (2015– 3 vs. Illinois, 3 vs. Wake Forest, 4 vs. Duke and 3 vs. Clemson).
• Williams was responsible for four touchdowns tonight and has 94 in his career, which extends the UNC record he set earlier this year. He passed for three scores and ran for one. He is third all-time in ACC history after passing Russell Wilson, who had 93 while playing at NC State.
• Williams scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, his 33rd career rushing touchdown. That extended his UNC record for rushing TDs by a quarterback and moved him ahead of tailback Kelvin Bryant for fourth place in UNC history for rushing scores. He is third in ACC history for rushing TDs by a quarterback.
• Williams completed 11 passes for 224 yards, an average of 20.4 yards per completion.
• T.J. Logan caught a 46-yard touchdown in the first quarter. It was Logan's first career touchdown catch. Logan caught the pass from Williams at the line of scrimmage. He then raced 46 yards through the secondary for the touchdown.
• Marquise Williams gained 305 yards of total offense tonight and became the fifth player in ACC history to gain at least 10,000 yards in his career. Williams has 10,099 yards in his career.
• Williams' 305 yards of total offense tonight increased his 2015 total to 3,696, the second most in UNC history. He moved past Bryn Renner, who had 3,394 in 2012. Williams set the record with 3,856 in 2014.
• Ryan Switzer set the UNC career record for punt return yards, which was previously held by Charlie Justice. Switzer, a junior, has 976 punt return yards. Justice had 966 yards from 1946-49.
• Switzer's 3-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter was his fifth receiving touchdown of the season and the 15th of his career.
• Elijah Hood scored on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter. It was his 17th rushing touchdown this season, which leads the Tar Heels and is second most this year in the ACC. He is tied for third with Kelvin Bryant (1981) in UNC single-season history with 17 rushing scores. Hood has rushed for 1,345 yards this year, the third most in UNC single-season history behind only Don McCauley (1,720 in 1970) and Mike Voight (1,407 in 1976).
• Wide receiver Quinshad Davis caught three passes for 73 yards. He extended his UNC career record for receptions to 199 and increased his yardage total to 2,554, second most in Carolina history.
• Joey Mangili's 51-yard punt in the second quarter was his longest of the season.
• Defensive tackle Nazair Jones intercepted a pass in the third quarter. It was his first INT of the season and his second career INT. Jones also intercepted a pass at Virginia in 2014.
• Linebacker Shakeel Rashad made double-digit tackles for the third consecutive game. He had a career-high 15 at Virginia Tech, 13 at NC State and 12 tonight vs. Clemson.
• Placekicker Nick Weiler made a 30-yard field goal in the first quarter. That kick gave Weiler 115 points, the second-most in UNC single-season history. Weiler's field goal moved him ahead of Giovani Bernard, who had 114 in 2012. Weiler added four extra points later in the game and has 119 points for the season. The UNC single-season record is 126 by Don McCauley in 1970.
• Cornerback M.J. Stewart broke up one pass and has 14 this season, tied for the fourth most in UNC single-season history. The Tar Heels had two breakups vs. Clemson and lead the ACC with 61. Stewart also tied Shakeel Rashad for the team lead tonight with a dozen tackles.
