Trinity Bursey is a multi-talented individual that has soared to new heights with the recent publication of her book, Face to Face: Intimately Seen, Intimately Pursued. Bursey is also a member of the UNC Women's Basketball family. Bursey played for the Tar Heels from 2006-2010.
Bursey graduated from Western Harnett High School and was recruited by UNC. Trinity decided to attend UNC because of the outstanding academic program and the UNC Coaching staff. Trinity said, “The entire coaching staff was so supportive and was always there for me. UNC was the right place for me.”
“Who doesn't love Tar Heel blue; it's a beautiful color?” Trinity quipped.
Bursey earned her degree in Psychology from UNC, and she has been very thankful to earn this degree. “It has meant so much to me to complete something I have started to earn my diploma. It has meant so much to me to be able to honor those that have come before me and my family, and to be able to succeed in life.
Trinity's love for basketball did not end with graduation. Trinity made the trek overseas and played for Slovanka MB in the Czech Republic from 2011-2012.
After returning to the States, Trinity had a stint as a substitute teacher, then became a teaching assistant in a school system. These experiences led her to become a teacher. Trinity is also working on her Master's Degree. She hopes to be able to focus on the study of brain science.
Trinity teaches a self-contained class that focuses on kids that have emotional problems who may not function well in mainstream classes. This is a combined third, fourth and fifth grade class. This has taught me a lot of patience. It has also shown me the strength of kind words and how those words can affect an individual, and how it can steer the course of your life.
"I realized that things in this world are not often what they seem to be. Real fulfilment comes from God, so I was really seeking Him and really praying for guidance. He began giving me answers through poetry. He began speaking to me in an intimate way. He was giving me all of these poems, so I was thinking what should I do with these poems? I found it in my heart to write a devotional book.”
Face to Face is not only poetry, but it has devotions that interpret the poetry, and the book also has journal questions. Trinity hopes that Face to Face will bring comfort and inspiration to the as he or she reads the book.
“My experiences at UNC have taught me a lot, she says. They have shown me how to work through adversities, tough scheduling and traveling. It has helped me manage my time better. It was a great learning experience. It has taught me to be a leader and how to step up. It has taught me to be humble with success and how to work through adversities and setbacks and still be successful. The experiences has had a lot of practical implications. They have taught me how to work well with teammates and people from all walks of life.
“My advice to the youth of today is to speak with God and see what He has to say. Take the positive words you are given and utilize those words to change your life.”
