North Carolina (18-6, 8-3 ACC) will play its first Atlantic Coast Conference game in Pittsburgh (16-9, 5-6) when it plays the Pitt Panthers on Saturday afternoon at the Petersen Events Center. Pitt joined the ACC last year, but the teams met in the regular season in Chapel Hill and the ACC Tournament in Greensboro but not in Pittsburgh.
Tipoff is set for 12:06 p.m., and the ACC Network will televise the game with Tim Brando (play-by-play) and Mike Gminski (analyst) on the call. WatchESPN will stream the game online, as will TheACC.com.
The Tar Heels enter the weekend with an Atlantic Coast Conference record of 8-3, in a three-way tie with Louisville and Duke for third in the standings behind Virginia (10-1) and Notre Dame (10-3).
Carolina hasn't played in a week since a 79-68 win at Boston College last Saturday (Feb. 7). In the meantime, the team held its annual Special Olympics clinic last Sunday, then practiced on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (taking Tuesday off).
Saturday's game will be the second in a three-game road swing for Carolina that started with the win at BC and will conclude at Duke next Wednesday (Feb. 18). The Tar Heels will play their first home game in nearly three weeks when they host Georgia Tech in the Smith Center on Saturday Feb. 21.
Carollina is 4-1 on the road in the ACC this season with wins at Clemson, North Carolina State, Wake Forest and Boston College (and a loss at Louisville). Roy Williams is 62-33 on the road in the ACC play, and his ACC road winning percentage of .652 is second-best in history behind Vic Bubas of Duke (.667 from 1960-69).
Carolina leads the all-time series with Pitt, 8-2. Saturday will mark the Tar Heels' first visit to Pittsburgh for an Atlantic Coast Conference game. Last year, UNC beat the Panthers, 75-71, on Feb. 15, 2014, in Chapel Hill in the regular season and PItt beat Carolina, 80-75, in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals in Greensboro.
After Saturday's matchup at Pitt and the game at Duke next Wednesday (Feb. 18), Carolina will play back-to-back home games on Feb. 21 and 24 against Georgia Tech and North Carolina State, respectively.
