Tar Heels Remain No. 2 In IWLCA Poll

CHAPEL HILL—The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 this season with a win over High Point last Friday and remain ranked No. 2 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Assocation (IWLCA) poll. The Tar Heels will visit No. 1 Maryland on Saturday afternoon in a matchup of the only two teams to receive first-place votes in the poll this week.
Defending NCAA champion Maryland has held down the top spot in the 2015 polls and Carolina has been No. 2 since the preseason. This week, Maryland received 398 total points in the IWLCA polling with 19 first-place votes. Carolina garnered 377 points and one first-place vote.
The top five of the poll this week is No. 1 Maryland, No. 2 UNC, No. 3 Syracuse, NO. 4 Florida and No. 5 Northwestern. Boston University is No. 6, Virginia is No. 7, Duke is No. 8, Loyola is No. 9 and Penn State is No. 10. Atlantic Coast Conference squads Notre Dame (No. 12) and Louisville (No. 13) also are in the rankings.
Carolina will play Maryland at noon on Saturday in College Park. The game will be streamed online by the Big Ten Network Plus.
