Tar Heel Women Top Blue Devils at Duke Meet

DURHAM, N.C. – The UNC women's fencing team capped Saturday's Duke Meet with the Tar Heels' highlight of the day: a 16-11 win over the host Blue Devils.
Carolina's men fell to Johns Hopkins (16-11) and No. 9 Duke (20-7) in the morning. In addition to the win over Duke, the UNC women fell 19-8 to No. 7 Northwestern in the afternoon session.
Competing at Card Gym on the Duke campus, the UNC men fell to Johns Hopkins 16-11 to start the day then got a break while Duke beat JHU 17-10. In the final match of the morning, No. 9 Duke beat UNC 20-7.
After a lunch break, the women's competition opened with UNC vs. No. 7 Northwestern. Northwestern also beat Duke, 20-7.
The UNC-Duke women met in the final action of the afternoon, with Carolina picking up the biggest win of the day. The Blue Devil women sit just outside the national top 10, first among the teams also receiving votes.
