RIO DE JANERIO, BRAZIL - Fresh off one of the best foil national championship performances in program history, Peter Bruk brought home a World Championship title.Â
Continuing his streak of success, Bruk won the Team Junior Men's Foil Team World Championships with Team USA.Â
Notably, Team USA entered the competition as underdogs, seeded ninth after pool play. Demonstrating resilience, the Americans then beat four of the top eight teams in the country. Bruk was the final fencer in almost every round, serving as the 'closer.'
In the round of 32, Bruk opened with a dominant 45-21 victory over Spain, winning all three of his bouts by at least two points.
Bruk closed out against 8th-ranked Hungary with a 5-0 victory in his final bout as the team won 45-31. Bruk and the squad took down the top-ranked Chinese squad 45-40.
In the semi-finals, the Americans bested 5th-ranked Great Britain 45-37. Finally, Peter Bruk brought home the world title against 6th-ranked France (45-31), securing a dominant 8-1 win in the last bout as the United States won 45-31.
