March 15, 2015 | Softball
Chapel Hill, N.C. – North Carolina softball held off a feisty Boston College team Saturday evening to take home a 5-2 ACC victory.
Jenna Kelly put the Tar Heels (17-5, 3-0) on the scoreboard with a solo home run in the second inning.
After Erin Satterfield hit her first double of the day in the third, Kristen Brown would single up the middle to bring her home and make it a two run Carolina lead.
Kaylee Carlson pitched a complete game, striking out four while giving up eight hits. The freshman showed great poise in the circle as she battled her way out of multiple sticky situations, never letting the Eagles get too much momentum going.
After giving up a run in the top of the fifth, Taylor Wike would lead off the bottom of the inning with a triple and would scurry home after the throw to third went past the BC fielders, giving UNC back its two run lead.
Boston College would make it a one run game again in the top of the sixth but Carolina would answer back with two runs of their own behind an RBI triple from Lauren Walker and an RBI double from Erin Satterfield, effectively putting the game away.
The Tar Heels will conclude the series with the Eagles with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m.
