Scouting The Carolina Classic
Texas: The Longhorns will enter the weekend with a record of 13-7. After spending the previous two weeks ranked in the top 25, Texas was dropped from the NFCA poll after losing four of their last 10 games. The last time these schools met was in 2010 in Austin where the Tar Heels dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision in eight innings. Texas leads the all-time series against Carolina 3-1-1.
Ohio: UNC and Ohio will meet for the 21st and 22nd times this weekend, as Carolina leads the series 17-3. The last meeting in 2007 resulted in a 3-2 North Carolina win. The Bobcats are 4-8 in 2015, with victories over Tennessee Tech, Northern Kentucky, and two over Quinnipiac. The teams share a common opponent in Western Carolina. WCU defeated Ohio 12-1 earlier this week, after losing 1-0 at Anderson Stadium to the Tar Heels to open their season.
Charlotte: The Tar Heels lead the all-time series against their in state foe 55-12, winning the last meeting 8-6 in 2013. The 49ers are 7-5 on the year, dropping three of there last five games as of March 2. They will play Furman tonight before making the trip to Chapel Hill this weekend.
Fairleigh Dickinson: After weeks of cancellations due to weather conditions, the Knights will open up their campaign this weekend with matchups against Ohio and Charlotte. FDU was originally supposed to start their season at the Tar Heel Invitational two weeks ago, but that tournament was cancelled due to the rain and cold weather in Chapel Hill.
