No. 18 Tar Heels Back On The Road At Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. --- North Carolina returns to Atlantic Coast Conference competition Friday at 5:30 p.m. when the Tar Heels visit Virginia Tech for the first of a three-game series at English Field. Carolina has won six of seven and is 23-14 on the year after a six-inning 1-0 win over High Point on Tuesday. The Tar Heels are currently tied for second in the ACC Coastal at 9-9 after taking two of three from NC State last weekend in Chapel Hill. Virginia Tech is 18-20 and 7-11 in league play after being swept at Miami over the weekend and beating East Tennessee State Wednesday. The series will continue Saturday at 2 p.m., with Sunday's finale set for a 1 p.m. start on ESPN3.

CAROLINA-VIRGINIA TECH SERIES HISTORY
• North Carolina is 66-23-2 all-time against Virginia Tech, including a 27-1 record under head coach Mike Fox.
• Carolina has dominated the series since Virginia Tech joined the ACC in 2004-05. The Tar Heels are 26-1 against the Hokies since 2005 and have won all nine league series between the two schools.
• UNC has won 22 in a row against Virginia Tech, including last season's three-game sweep in Chapel Hill. VT's last win in the series came in 2007. The Hokies took the middle game of a three-game home series 6-3.
• The Tar Heels swept a three-game set in Blacksburg in 2013, winning 21-8, 9-8 in 10 innings and 3-0.
• Virginia Tech will have a familiar face in its dugout this weekend. Former Tar Heel standout Robert Woodard is in his second season as the Hokies' pitching coach after spending one year at UNC Wilmington. Woodard, who also spent two-plus seasons as a volunteer assistant at Carolina, is the winningest pitcher in program history with a career record of 34-5.
