April 24, 2015 | Men's Lacrosse
WASHINGTON, April 23, 2015 – The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced the 25 men's nominees for the 2015 Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour. The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the preeminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male college lacrosse player in the United States.
Three of this year's 25 nominees represent the University of North Carolina. Senior attackman Joey Sankey, senior attackman Jimmy Bitter and senior midfielder Chad Tutton have all had outstanding seasons for the 12-2 Tar Heels who are currently ranked No. 2 in the nation and will play No. 4 Syracuse Friday at 8 p.m. in the ACC Tournament semifinals at Chester, Pa.
Five men's finalists will be selected from the group of 25, announced on Thursday, May 7, and invited to the ceremony. The 15th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held Thursday, May 28 in Washington, D.C., at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.
Sankey has set the UNC career record for points this year while Bitter is five goals shy of setting the career school record for goals scored. Tutton achieved the UNC career record for goals by a midfielder earlier this season.
The men's award nominees include players from 14 schools, including 2014 co-winner Lyle Thompson (Albany) and representatives from 11 of the top 20 teams in the April 20 USILA Coaches Poll. Six schools are represented by multiple players.
