June 18, 2015 | Football
The Belk College Kickoff Game will be the first major college football game shown on the ESPN family of networks, and marks the 57th time the two schools have met on the football field. The Tar Heels currently lead the series with a 34-18-4 record against the Gamecocks.
“It is exciting for Charlotte to host the first college football game of 2015 televised on ESPN,” said Will Webb, executive director of the Charlotte Sports Foundation. “We are looking forward to welcoming two great universities and their fans to our city to open the college football season.”
“We are thrilled to have all eyes on Charlotte, as the Belk College Kickoff Game kicks off the college football season on ESPN,” said David Zant, Belk's president and chief merchandising officer. “There is nothing like college football in the South and we can't wait for the Tar Heels and Gamecocks to reign in the start of college football with us.”
