No. 20: No. 2 Carolina 4, No. 12 Virginia 3 - Women's Tennis, April 10, 2015
The 12th-ranked Cavaliers provided the last major hurdle to an undefeated regular season when they visited the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in April. On the heels of a dominant doubles point, Carolina got singles wins from reliable veterans Jamie Loeb and Whitney Kay before freshman Cassandra Vazquez clinched the dual in just her second ACC singles match.
No. 19: No. 4 Carolina 17, No. 2 Syracuse 15 - Men's Lacrosse, April 11, 2015
In front of the largest lacrosse crowd at Fetzer Field in more than two decades, the No. 4 Tar Heels held off a late Syracuse rally to win 17-15 on Senior Day. Carolina dominated the opening period and led 17-11 with eight minutes remaining before the Orange mounted one final charge. Jake Bailey's forced turnover in the final minute sealed it for UNC, which got four goals and an assist from Luke Goldstock. Senior Joey Sankey became Carolina's all-time leading scorer with a four-quarter goal.
No. 18: No. 16 Carolina 4, No. 9 Duke 3 (ACC Championship) - Men's Tennis, April 24, 2015
Carolina completed a season sweep over archrival Duke with a dramatic 4-3 win in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament in Cary. The Blue Devils were in command after winning the doubles point and taking a quick decision at No. 6 singles, but the Tar Heels stormed back on the strength of wins from Robert Kelly, Brayden Schnur and Brett Clark. With the dual knotted at 3, Jack Murray broke Chris Mengel at 6-5 in the third set to give UNC a thrilling victory.
No. 17: No. 19 Carolina 71, No. 3 Virginia 67 (ACC Tournament) - Men's Basketball, March 14, 2015
The Tar Heels put together perhaps their best performance of the year in a wire-to-wire win over defending ACC champion Virginia, 71-67, in the ACC Tournament semifinals in Greensboro. Carolina shot a sizzling 55 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3 against the stout UVa defense, with Justin Jackson's 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting leading the way. UNC would fall in the ACC final to Notre Dame a day later, but the impressive display against the Cavaliers set the tone for a long-awaited return to the NCAA Sweet 16.
No. 16: No. 9 Carolina 3, No. 18 Notre Dame 2 (2 OT) - Women's Soccer, Sept. 20, 2014
A program that once played more than 600 straight games without losing by more than one goal rarely finds itself in a deep hole, but that's exactly what happened to the Carolina women's soccer team in an early-season test at Notre Dame. The host Irish led 2-0 at halftime on goals from Morgan Andrews and Taylor Klawunder, but the Tar Heels answered in the 61st minute on Cameron Castleberry's first tally of the year. A perfectly placed free kick goal from Joanna Boyles made it 2-2 in the 76th minute before Kat Nigro won it in the first minute of the second overtime period.
