Men's Soccer Outlasts Davidson For 5-4 Win
August 20, 2015 | Men's Soccer
Carolina controlled possession from the opening whistle and that paid off by scoring three times in a five minute, 11 second span of the first half. Sophomore David October struck first off a feed from Zach Wright in the 14th minute.
Just over three minutes later, Nico Melo found George for his first goal of the match in the 17th minute. It was 3-0 a minute later when George converted a penalty kick after Wright was dragged down by a Wildcat defender in the 19th minute.
Wright, the sophomore forward from Smithville, Texas, accounted for the fourth goal of the opening half when he capitalized on a Davidson miscue from its back line and hit the back of the next in the 37th minute.
A 73-minute weather delay halted momentum that Carolina built up in the first half. Davidson would score the next four goals and would tie the match, 4-4, in the 72nd minute.
However, Andy Lopez answered right back for the home-standing Tar Heels with his fourth goal of the preseason in the 74th minute to regain the lead at 5-4.
Carolina visits Coastal Carolina in an exhibition match on Saturday in Conway, S.C., at 7 p.m.
