Davis Love III Wins PGA Tour Event In Greensboro
August 23, 2015 | Men's Golf
Former Tar Heel All-America Davis Love III fired a 6-under par 64 on Sunday to win the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, his 21st career PGA Tour victory and his first since 2008.
Love, who played for the Tar Heels from 1982-85, won in Greensboro for the third time, but the first at Sedgefield. He eagled two holes on Sunday.
Love finished one stroke ahead of Jason Gore and two ahead Charl Schwartzel, Paul Casey and Sean Brown.
Love, 51, is the third-oldest champion in PGA Tour history. Only Sam Snead and Art Wall ever won PGA events at an older age than Love, who will be the captain of the United States Ryder Cup team for the second time in five years in 2016.
Today's win comes 28 years after Love's first PGA Tour win which came in 1987 at the MCI Heritage in Hilton Head, S.C.
