The Atlantic Coast Conference plans to release the complete 2015-16 basketball schedule--some times and TV networks may be added later, but all the dates will be finalized--this week. That will fill in the rest of the details for a Tar Heel team expected to be very highly regarded nationally, and a group that already has a solid nonconference schedule on the docket.
The headliner in the batch of already-announced nonconference games could be a potential 1 vs. 2 showdown with Maryland on Dec. 1 at 9:30 p.m. at the Smith Center. In addition, the Tar Heels will make three neutral site trips before league play begins. They'll open the season against Temple on Nov. 13 in Annapolis in the Veterans Classic. Then they'll journey to Kansas City Nov. 23-24 for a four-team tournament that includes Northwestern, Kansas State and Missouri. And they'll wrap up the neutral part of the schedule with a Dec. 19 date with UCLA in Brooklyn. Tickets for all three sets of neutral site games are available now.
Other games on the nonconference schedule that are already known include:
Nov. 15 against Fairfield
Nov. 18 against Wofford
Nov. 21 at Northern Iowa in a home game for Marcus Paige
Dec. 12 at Texas
Dec. 21 at home against Appalachian State
Dec. 28 at home against UNC Greensboro
Several ACC dates have also been announced by TV networks. The Tar Heels will open ACC play in December with a Dec. 30 home game against Clemson. They'll also have three Monday games: Jan. 4 at Florida State, Feb. 1 at Louisville and Feb. 29 at home against Syracuse.
Check back on GoHeels later this week for the first reveal of the 2015-16 schedule, plus analysis and an interview with Roy Williams.
