Women T-12 At Powerade Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. – The women's golf team remains is tied for 12th after the second round of the Powerade Cougar Classic. The team shot 9-over-par, two strokes better than Sunday's performance, to finish 20-over-par for the tournament with just one round remaining.
“The team played better today but are still struggling a bit with the greens, Head Coach Jan Mann said. “Hopefully tomorrow they will be more confident and the putts will drop.”
Sophomore Bryana Nguyen had the best performance of the day for the Tar Heels shooting 1-over-par. Nguyen had two birdies and three bogeys to finish with a 73. She's tied for 23rd at 3-over-par 147. Also tied for 23rd is Leslie Cloots who shot 2-over-par 74 in today's round. Cloots had two birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey in the second round. Senior Elizabeth Mallett posted a 2-over-par 74 on Monday to get to 6-over-par 150 for the tournament. She had two birdies and four bogeys in her round and heads into the third round tied for 45th. Sophomore Lexi Harkins carded two birdies and six bogeys to finish 4-over-par for the day and 8-over 152 for the tournament. She's tied for 66th going into the final round. Freshman Kelly Whaley had three double bogeys and two bogeys to go along with one birdie in her 7-over-par second round. Whaley's tied for 82nd heading into Tuesday's round.
North Carolina individual Rachel Jones finished the day with a 4-over-par performance to put her at 6-over for the tournament and tied for 45th.
Arkansas extended their lead over the field, which now extends to 10 strokes, and finished the day at 11-under-par. Virginia is alone in second at 1-under-par 575. Georgia and Florida remain tied for the second straight day, but are tied for third.
Alice Hewson of Clemson took a share of the lead on Monday after an incredible 7-under-par 65 in the second round. She's tied with Florida's Taylor Tomlinson at 8-under 136 for the tournament. Arkansas' Gaby Lopez is in third at 6-under while Virginia's Elizabeth Szokol is alone in fourth. Georgia's Jillian Hollis sits at 3-under for the tournament after shooting 4-under for the day. Ashley Holder of Central Florida, Sierra Sims of Wake Forest, and Summer Roachell and Regina Plasencia of Arkansas are all tied for sixth at 2-under-par.
The final round of the Powerade Cougar Classic will start tomorrow morning. The tournament is being held at Yeamans Hall, which features a par 72, 6,204-yard layout. Follow the action live on golfstat.com and keep up with the team's Twitter handle @uncwomensgolf.
