Four members of the North Carolina baseball team were recognized by Baseball America as top prospects from their respective summer leagues, the magazine and website announced recently. Sophomore Brian Miller was picked as the No. 1 prospect in the Coastal Plain League to lead the group, which was tied for fourth-largest nationally.
In addition to Miller, sophomores Logan Warmoth (No. 2) and Jason Morgan (No. 4) were among the top prospects from the Cal Ripken League and A.J. Bogucki was listed as the No. 7 player in the Northwoods League.
Miller was an all-star for the Holly Springs Salamanders, hitting .389 (77-198) with six doubles, 11 RBIs and a league-best 38 stolen bases.
Warmoth and Morgan helped lead the Baltimore Redbirds to a Cal Ripken title. Warmoth hit .330 (34-103), with 25 runs, 17 RBI and 21 stolen bases. Morgan was 5-2 with a 1.78 ERA in nine appearances (seven starts). He allowed just 34 hits in 40.1 innings and struck out 29 against just 11 walks.
Bogucki had a 3-4 record with a 3.91 ERA for the Madison Mallards. The junior right-hander struck out 37 batters and walked just 14 in 43.2 innings.
